Security Certificate warnings on OLD Android phones
by Site AdminIf you have an older Android phone (I have a Samsung S5) and use the pre-installed stock browser (Chrome) you may be getting an "NET-ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID" error, accompanied by lots of scary warnings. This will affect not only OD but approximately two billion certificates and thus websites ☹. The article here explains the issue:

The article mentions downloading Firefox. You can visit https://getfirefox.com on your browser and click the "Get it on Google Play" black button, or search google play directly. This will definitely fix your issue with OD and other sites in the longer run. 🙂 Better still there is no need to buy a new phone.😀

My phone runs Android 4.4. I haven't experienced any problems with Chrome, and it looks like it will be OK at least until 2024. 🙂

Note that 'Firefox is compatible with Android 5.0 or above devices. ARMV6 devices and Android versions older than 5.0 are no longer supported.'

Thankfully.i am located in the Dark ages with my Nokia 6310,but no frustrating problems🙂
lalandranger68 on 15/10/21 @ 15:55Yesterday, before posting my message above, I checked a few websites, including OD, and they were all OK. However, I have checked again today and I have got the 'NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID' error, but only with OD. (The first link I posted yesterday says that 'Some specific developers might need to check their certificates aren't hardcoded', but I'm well out of my depth here!)
on 15/10/21 @ 21:17I wondered if OD seemed OK yesterday due to the fact that I was already logged in on my PC (I don't use the phone much when I'm at home) but that's making no difference, so it's a mystery to me.
Anyway, I can easily get round the problem by tapping 'Advanced' and then 'Proceed to www.outdoorduo.co.uk (unsafe)'.
Curiouser and curiouser 🤔 … I checked OD at about 1 a.m. this morning and it was OK again, but a while later the problem returned; the problem was still there about half an hour ago, but it is now OK once again!
M1M1960 on 16/10/21 @ 14:24I have still not had the problem with any of the other websites I have checked.
Maybe you just have a problem full stop🤷🏼♀️

MiMitch on 17/10/21 @ 9:13M1960: Peculiar. There is a "fix" my hosts have aplied at my end. Maybe its being inconsistent. I'll investigate
Site Admin on 18/10/21 @ 10:18Site Admin: Many thanks, but no worries if you can't sort it out because, as I said above, I can easily get round the problem. Let me know if and when you want me to check with my phone again.
M1M1960 on 18/10/21 @ 14:15landranger68: yes Keith, I also have no smart ass gadgets. Apps or problems.
